A slimmer has been left “over the moon” after discovering that losing weight has reversed his diabetes.

David Rogers from Stithians is now a target member of the Mabe group but when he joined he was suffering health problems, including type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

However, at a special meeting of his group, he and his wife Kay – who were recently crowned ‘couple of the year’ – David was able to tell members that his doctor had just given him the all-clear on his diabetes and confirmed that his blood pressure was back to normal.

Group leader Pam Mundy said: “David and Kay are both target members and were overjoyed at David’s news he received just that day. He was over the moon.”

It meant a double celebration for the group, which also crowned their ‘woman of the year’ in the form of Samantha Henry.

Falmouth mayor Steve Eva was there to present the award to Sam, who said: “When I first joined group I never dreamt that I would be in the position I am now.

“Losing weight has made such a big difference to my life. My health has improved, I have more energy, I’m happier and I feel more comfortable in my own skin.”

She added that she still managed to eat cooked breakfasts, curries and roast dinners, but just cooked them differently.

She was one of four women nominated for the title that afternoon, which group members then voted on.

Falmouth Packet:

Lu Massey, Deborah Bowers, mayor Steve Eva, Sam Henry (woman of the year), Hannah Morgan and Renay Hosen with consultant Pam Mundy (centre)

All those nominated had either reached their target weight or were nearing it, and had lost more than 12 stone between them.

Pam said: “I am so proud of all my members and particularly the dedication and commitment they show.

“Sam is a fantastic ambassador for Slimming World and David has shown that his determination has given him the best gift ever, his health.

"I hope that these members inspire others that nothing is impossible if you really want it and what better way to eat healthily, while still enjoying all your favourite foods.”

The group is held at Mabe Community Hall in Cunningham Park every Tuesday at 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
