Great Western Railway (GWR) will be welcoming visitors to Cornwall Pride in Newquay this weekend.

Customers stepping out at Newquay station will be greeted by a galaxy of Pride stars decorating the platform as well as rainbow-coloured bunting, an inflatable arch and GWR staff handing out special Pride goodies.

This Saturday’s Cornwall Pride will see thousands gathering at Newquay’s Beach Road Car Park from 11.00am for the parade.

It starts at midday and proceeds through town to its finale at Killacourt at 1pm.

Rainbow Fest then swings into action at Killacourt, with activities families to enjoy including live music, stalls, face painting and hot and cold food.

A Moonbow Party finishes off the day in style, with live music and entertainment keeping the fun going from 2000 until late.

The train operator has invested more than £20,000 in 11 Pride events and supported travel to nine more.

GWR Business Assurance Director Joe Graham said: “GWR is proud to sponsor Cornwall Pride this year. As a key part of our network, and home to many of our customers and colleagues, we are delighted to be able to show our support to the LGBTQ+ community here.

“We are committed to making GWR a more inclusive organisation where people feel they can be themselves, and where our workforce is as diverse as the customers and communities we serve."

Cornwall Pride chairperson Matthew Kenworthy Gomes said: “Cornwall Pride boasts a large, outreaching voice and we are incredibly grateful for the support of GWR in helping us to make such a big impact.

“What Cornwall Pride offers is acceptance – our motto says it all: ‘Be who you want to be and love who you want to love’. That’s not just about the LGBTQ+ community but about everyone … and everyone celebrating that together.”

GWR is also running a competition: Anyone who spots the #trainbow train this summer can share a picture of it using the hashtag on Twitter or Instagram and the company will pick monthly winners to receive a pair of First Class Return tickets.
