A&P Falmouth is currently recruiting to fill vacancies for five apprentices.

The trainee positions now available are for two engineering apprentices, a pipe fabricator apprentice, and electrical apprentice and a machine engineering apprentice.

The company has already successfully recruited trainees across other disciplines who will start their training next month.

The deadline for applications is Friday September 6. The apprenticeships will last for three to four years.

Successful candidates will have the potential to move into full time employment within A&P, progress within the company and attain further qualifications.

The company has employed a number of trainees across a mixture of trade disciplines over the last decade.

At A&P Falmouth, 72 per cent of its management, supervisors and technical staff started out on the apprenticeship programme.

Steve Jones, who is now managing director operations and site director at Falmouth, began his career as an apprentice at a famous British shipbuilding yard.

“Modern day apprentices need to be not only hands on but be involved in technology and be exposed to innovation and progression,” said Mr Jones. “At A&P we want our apprentices to grow in stature, learn from our current employees and build their lives upon a good work ethic that promotes a good team ethos. This is what this industry is all about.”

Darren Rice, A&P Falmouth’s production director, added: “A&P Falmouth is well known for its successful apprenticeship schemes and outstanding results. Such development of highly skilled trades persons has been a major contributor to obtaining the high level of credibility A&P have within the ship repair industry.

“The development of core skills will further enhance our reputation within the industry which is key to future success, but we will also now diversify into other sectors such as support to the renewable and nuclear energy sectors.”
