Police have given a further update on their investigations into a series of car fires in Helston that left people having to flee their homes in the middle of the night.

Two people who were questioned about the fires in Oliver's Terrace and Penberthy Road in June were due to answer bail last Thursday.

The 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle that occurred overnight on June 25/26.

Last Thursday was their second bail date, having been re-bailed by police in July for a further three weeks.

A police spokesperson has now confirmed that no charges were brought against either of the pair when their bail term ended.

The spokesperson said: "The 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man have been released under investigation pending further enquiries."

This means that police will continue to investigate the incidents, but no fixed date has been set for when officers have to notify the pair on their decision over whether they will be charged or that no further action will be taken.

Shortly after the incidents, police appealed for witnesses from both Helston and Pentewan, near St Austell.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to ring 101 quoting crime reference numbers CR/56420/19 and CR/56448/19.
