A popular fast food diner has been destroyed by fire in what is believed to have been an arson attack.

Zippy’s Diner at Carland Cross was targeted in the early hours of this morning.

Anyone with information about what happened is now asked to contact police.

Owner Carl Roberts has been serving burgers and soft drinks from the grass verge close to the Shell garage, off the A30 roundabout, for the last three and a half years.

He was woken by a phone call from police at 3am.

Crews from Newquay and Perranporth stations were scrambled between 1am and 2am this morning and spent two hours trying to save the business.

A fire service spokesperson said: “The fire crews were confronted with a fire involving a fast-food outlet trailer.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one jet and one hosereel jet to knock down the fire, which also involved cylinders.

“The fire was fully extinguished by 4am and the fire crews remained at the scene damping down until 4.20am.

“Arson is suspected and Devon and Cornwall Police have been informed.”

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call police on 101.
