A beauty spot near Falmouth was filled with emergency services yesterday afternoon when a person had to be airlifted to hospital in front of shocked families.

Coastguard volunteers from the Falmouth rescue team were called in to help ambulance staff at Helford Passage just after 4.15pm.

Members of the public and staff from Helford River Boats were caring for a person on the beach after they suffered a "medical episode."

The air ambulance then landed nearby and the casualty was wheeled to the waiting helicopter, to be flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

"Thank you to Helford River Boats for the refreshments; very much appreciated."
