THE Driftwood Spars Brewery in St Agnes has reached the final stages of the CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain Awards, with one of its beers fighting it out for the ultimate accolade.

The winners will be announced at the Great British Beer Festival at Olympia in London on August 6.

It’s the second year in a row that the Cornish microbrewery has made it through to the final judging; last year Lou’s Brew was shortlisted, just missing out on a medal.

Head brewer Pete Martin and Louise Treseder, landlady of The Driftwood Spars, will be travelling to the festival to hear the winners announced.

Pete said: “We’re not allowed to reveal which beer has been shortlisted yet, or which category it falls in, but we’re really pleased to have made it this far in such a huge competition.”

Louise added: “It’s particularly gratifying to be shortlisted as we converted all Driftwood Spars Brewery beers to gluten free earlier this year. This recognition from the beer experts at CAMRA confirms what we already knew – that the taste of our beers is as good as ever!”

The Champion Beer of Britain is one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the world; it is the ultimate honour for UK brewers.

Judging takes almost a year, with thousands of entries whittled down to just a handful, and the eventual winners chosen by a panel of industry experts at the Great British Beer Festival.

The Driftwood Spars Brewery was established in 2000 and is an award-winning microbrewery which uses the finest British ingredients to create elegant, sophisticated and distinctive hand-crafted ales.

The brewery is part of The Driftwood Spars, an independent pub with rooms in Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes; together the two are a powerhouse of modern British beer appreciation.

Pete’s brews are available at The Driftwood Spars and further afield at pubs across Cornwall and Devon and online at www.driftwoodsparsbrewery.com
