Falmouth and Helston will be getting at least five new police officers between the two towns.

One of these officers will join the neighbourhood team and the other four will be focused on patrol and response duties.

Sergeant Paul Kelly announced the news at a Falmouth Town Council meeting last night (Monday July 22).

Some of them have already joined the force, whilst others are expected to join in the coming months.

Trescobeas councillor David Saunby was pleased with the news, saying "it's good to hear".

The Falmouth and Helston policing sector's neighbourhood team has been one PCSO short since Ellie Grey's departure to join Falmouth University was announced in January.

The neighbourhood team for the area currently consists of sergeant Paul Kelly; PCs Matthew Cummings and Helen Newton; and PCSOs Liam Brannigan. Becky Bromley, Andy Huddlestone and Bill Wood.

Sergeant Kelly also outlined the force's policing priorities.

Safeguarding the vulnerable and reducing the risk of child sexual assault was identified as the highest priority, followed by dealing with anti-social behaviour and, finally, commercial burglary.

The sergeant outlined how the force has had success recently in dealing with anti-social behaviour locally, including the closure of two properties in Falmouth and Penryn.

He went on to say that a number of recent commercial and residential burglaries are currently being investigated.

He said: "They're always a concern, and always unpleasant. There have been several and they're being investigated."
