Google is hosting a free workshop in Truro for high street businesses that want to improve their digital skills tomorrow (Friday July 19).

The Google Digital Garage High Street Tour aims to help high street businesses by giving them access to skills needed to operate and grow in the digital economy.

It will be held at The Business Space in Chiltern House, City Road between 10am and 4pm.

Topics to be covered include: how to build a digital marketing plan, knowing your business with data, building a social media strategy, growing your business on Google Maps and how to enhance your Google My Business listing with a virtual tour of your shop or workspace.

The initiative has trained more than 300,000 people in more than 500 locations across the country since its inception in 2015.

It comes after a recent study conducted by YouGov on behalf of Google showed that nearly half (46 per cent) of adults in the South West say they would benefit from digital skills training to boost career opportunities.

The same study showed that nearly half (44 per cent) of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the South West have no social media presence and more than a quarter (27 per cent) do not have an official website.

Sarah Newton MP will be attending the event.
