A new festival set up by a team from Glastonbury starts in St Day tomorrow.

Bangers & Mash-Up is designed to make Cornish art and entertainment affordable to everyone.

The three-day event starts tomorrow at the United Downs Banger Track, following a free art exhibition today. Tickets will cost £5 a day, with the event opening at 10am and closing at 11pm each day.

Festival organiser Niddy said: “It’s our first festival here and so we want to get the ethos right from the start. We are going to follow Glastonbury Festival’s example and be single-use plastic-free.

“If Glastonbury, ‘the largest Greenfield festival in the world,’ can do it so can we. We want you to bring your own pewter tankard or old festival cup with you - no glass or china please. We can supply a reusable cup which will cost 50p - you can use it all day, keep it and take it home.”

Entertainment at the festival will include a singing corner, a busk stop and walkabout theatre.

The final line-up of acts has been announced and the three headline acts are 3 Daft Monkeys, Black Water County and Laid Blak – with DJs, traditional Cornish singing and local bands also performing.

Free art workshops will include hot metal casting, chainsaw sculpting and up-cycling, as well as musical workshops.

A Friday mid-morning takeover from 11am to 3pm will see the festival team up with local care homes to get 1,000 older people along to the festival site for singing, free teas and coffees and a Cornish cream tea each.

“We want to shine a light on talent and ignite passions. There’s going to be absolutely loads for everyone to enjoy and join in with,” added Niddy, who said organisers were working with local producers to offer food at a reasonable price.

“We are a bunch of passionate and experienced festival crew, having done Glastonbury and Boomtown to Shambala and Port Eliot. We want to take all the best bits and bring them into one festival that is affordable by, and accessible to, all,” she said.

There is no onsite camping or sleeping in vehicles allowed.
