Jazz pianist Matt Carter will be bringing his Stevie Wonder Project back to St Ives for the 2019 September Festival.

St Ives Jazz Club have booked Carter and company to return to the Western Hotel on Wednesday, September 25, following the success of their first visit in January.

"For anyone who loves the music of Stevie Wonder then this gig is a must see, with some of the finest young musicians in the country coming together in what promises to be an evening of high energy, soulful and uplifting music," said a Jazz Club spokesman.

The band features the voice of Phoebe Jane, recognised as a prodigious talent by the likes of Lalah Hathaway.

She has performed alongside soul singer Joss Stone, for whom Steve Down (guitar) regularly tours with all over the world. Both Matt Carter (piano) and Seth Tackaberry (bass) currently study jazz at The Royal Academy of Music, and Seth recently came off tour with guitarist Cory Wong (Vulfpeck) and also made it to the final of BBC young jazz musician 2018.

The line up is completed by Miguel Andrews on drums. "This gig promises to be very special, and if the last one is anything to go by, will have the whole club up and dancing before the night is over," claim the Jazz Club.

The show is the final one of four hosted by St Ives Jazz Club at this year's September Festival. First up on Monday, September 16, is Sarah-Jane Morris, descibed as "Britain’s most influential jazz and R&B singer.

Sarah collaborates with writer/director Mark Thomas, film-maker Rod Morris and guitarists Tony Remy and Tim Cansfield in this performance work 'Sweet Little Mystery' which tells the story of John Martyn, an innovative musical talent who died aged 60, using his own words and music.

The following night Giles Thornton Dectet appear at the Western, home of the Jazz Club. Giles is a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying Jazz Composition.

He set up his jazz orchestra in January 2018, in order to record his debut big band album 'Be In Today', and had a successful launch at the Vortex Jazz Club, on July 4, 2018.

The Quentin Collins Sextet will appear at the Western the following Tuesday (Sept 24 Performing material from their new album 'Road Warrior'’, they draw inspiration from the rich tradition of three-horn frontlines, with an explosive all-star line-up evoking The Jazz Messengers, McCoy Tyner, and Wynton Marsalis.

The line-up features Quentin Collins (trumpet), Tom Harrison and Leo Richardson (saxophones), Steve Hamilton (piano), Conor Chaplin (bass) and Winston Clifford (drums).
