They are volunteers who save lives around Falmouth’s coastline – and now the town’s coastguards are doing their bit to save the planet as well.

Members of Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team now have their own branded aluminium water bottles and thermal mugs for use on operations and training sessions.

It is thanks to the Falmouth branch of the Coastguard Association, which was keen to work with the team to look at ways of reducing how much single-use plastics they use.

Coastguard Association Falmouth said: “We have identified that the plastic water bottles and cups they use are by far the biggest 'culprit'.

“Working with Alex at ABC Vinyl Works we have provided the team and 'full time' area staff with some rather stylish aluminium water bottles and thermal mugs for use on operations and training sessions.”

Thanks to the blessing of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Alex was also able to use their logos to give the bottles and flasks an extra professional finish.

A spokesperson for Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Big thanks to our colleagues at the Coastguard Association Falmouth for donating these great bottles and flasks to support the coastguard rescue team and help us reduce our use of single use plastics.”
