A coastal walk along the cliffs of west Cornwall is to be held in memory of Porthleven restaurateur Jane Kereama while raising money at the same time.

Jane, who ran award-winning Kota and Kota Kai with her chef husband Jude, died at the end of May from advanced cancer, aged just 46.

Now Sandie Johns, who is also team leader for Macmillan Kernow volunteer fundraisers, has organised a walk next month that will both honour Jane and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, with all the money staying in Cornwall.

Sandie said: "We just want as many people as possible to take part.

"Jude and Jane are very good friends of mine anyway. I've been there with Jane through it all. It drove me to do it because of her.

"I put it to my team who I manage and they came to an agreement that this would be best thing we could possibly do."

She said she had also spoken with Jude and the couple's son Joe, who gave the event their full backing.

Taking place on Saturday, August 17 from 10am, the walk begins in the large car park at Long Rock and ends in Porthleven with a buffet at Kota Kai.

The full 17-mile route passes St Michael's Mount, Trenow Cove and Trevelyan Cove, before joining the stark cliffs of Maen-du-Point that lead down into Perranuthnoe.

From there the walkers will head past Trebarvah Cliff, Cudden Point, Pixies Cove, Prussia Cove, Kennegy Sands and around Hoe Point before making their way into Praa Sands, Lesceave cliff and Rinsey Head, cutting off the point to head straight to Porthcew.

A sandy beach walk across the front of the remains of Wheal Prosper Engine House will then see the walkers entering Porthleven itself.

There is also the option to walk just five miles or ten miles of it, with meeting points given along the way.

A link to sign up for the walk via eventbrite can be found on the 'In Memory of Jane Kereama - Macmillan Kernow Coastal Walk' Facebook page.

There is a £25 registration fee, with no minimum limit on sponsorship money raised. Dogs are welcome on the walk.
