Football came home in St Keverne when the village side clinched victory at this year's Norman Nicholls Football Tournament.

Now in its 41st year, it has been 20 years since St Keverne last took home the trophy.

A total of 19 under 11 teams took part in this year's competition, involving 115 children.

The final saw St Keverne A side take on Grade Ruan A in a tense, close game that was settled by a single goal to make St Keverne the champions with a 1-0 win.

In the under 16s competition six teams took part. Played on a league basis, the team calling themselves Amin Yourshed were the winners with four wins and a draw, ending the competition with 13 points.

Jeff Williams thanked the referees Jonny Smith, Scott Scott, Kevin Tripconey, Jude Tripconey, Ibby Moore and Joslin Moore.

He also thanked Michelle Patterson, Michaela Peters, Tina James, Gail Mitchell, Tina Kemp, Janet Elliott, Rhiann Kemp Foulkes and Tash Cleminson for providing the barbecue, drinks and ice cream all day, and Simon Richards and Morris Thomas who spent most of the day before setting up the goals and marking pitches.

Finally he thanked Ian Edwards for providing the PA system.

"Without all these people, such an event can't be set up and run; without everyone who attends it can't be a success. Well done everyone," he added.

Held at St Keverne Player Field, the event raises money for the ongoing upkeep of the ground, although the main aim is to bring together local schools for a day of sport.
