Celebrate the release of new film The Kid Who Would Be King at Pendennis and St Mawes Castles this half term.

Head to the castles, on both sides of the Fal estuary, from February 16-24 and embark on a brand new Castle Quest inspired by the film.

Join Merlin, Alex and his band of knights on an epic quest to save England from an evil medieval menace.

Track down questions across the castle – and answer them to claim your royal reward.

Putting a modern twist on the tales of King Arthur, The Kid Who Would Be King follows the story of unlikely hero Alex as he embarks on a legendary adventure. Alex thinks he's just an ordinary school kid, until he stumbles upon the mythical Sword in the Stone, Excalibur. Now, he must unite his friends and enemies into a band of knights and, together with the wizard Merlin must do battle with an ancient demon intent on reigning chaos and darkness over the earth. With the future at stake, Alex must become the great leader he never dreamed he could be.

English Heritage events manager Ella Harrison said: “We are thrilled to be working with 20th Century Fox to mark the release of their new film, The Kid Who Would be King. The film features some iconic historic sites – and to celebrate we’re inviting visitors to embark on a special Quest at both Pendennis and St Mawes Castles. It promises to be a legendary half term day out.”

Alongside the Castle Quest, visitors to Pendennis Castle from February 18-22 can step back in time to the Second World War as they are put through their paces in Training the Troops.

Join the castle’s Drill Sergeant and take on the castle obstacle course. Crawl through tunnels, walk the plank and see if you have what it takes to defend a castle in this lively activity the whole family can compete in.
