The remnants of hurricane Helene that swept across Cornwall on Monday evening caused the cruise ship Seabourn Ovation to remain in port overnight instead of sailing for Cobh as she continues a 16 day anti-clockwise circumnavigation of the United Kingdom on her “Jewels of the National Trust “ cruise.
Her departure delayed the arrival of the cruise ship Star Breeze, ex Seabourn Spirit, which berthed on County wharf yesterday morning as she neared the end of her clockwise circumnavigation of the UK.
Offshore the Cunard liner Queen Mary 2 and P&O’s cruise ship Aurora, both bound for New York, made large deviations in their planned track to avoid the bad weather, with both ships steaming down into the Bay of Biscay before heading westwards.
Next Wednesday September 26th The World, the largest private residential ship afloat and home to only 165 residences is returning to the port for a two day visit.
