Al fresco dining almost turned into underwater dinner at the Pandora Inn last night.
With a high tide of 5.7, combined with a strong easterly wind, the patio area of the Restronguet pub was completely flooded at 7pm – with the water also spreading to half the car park.
This did not to faze pub goers, however, with many coming specifically to see such a high tide.
Some even decided to sit on the flooded patio area to eat, despite the ankle deep water, either wearing welly boots or keeping their feet up on the benches.
While the diners may have been equipped for the water, however, the good natured waiting staff were forced to paddle out in their shoes to serve the meals.
There was great excitement amongst younger visitors, who began by splashing about in the water and eventually took over their boots entirely and used them as makeshift buckets.
They screamed with delight after realising that small fish had swum into the car park from the creek.
The pub is renowned for its flooding during higher than normal tides and is constantly prepared for this eventuality, with sandbags at the ready – and even a ‘plug’ in the bar area that can be removed to let the water drain away, in the event of extreme high water.
Last night, however, the pub only suffered from minor water inside, which was consigned to one corner area.
