A WELLINGTON woman who fled a blazing flat in Cornhill has completed a skydive to raise £210 for the British Red Cross service which helped her.
Hannah Wescott, 21, a lab technician, took the 15,000ft plunge from a plane at Dunkeswell for the charity’s fire and emergency support service.
The service works with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to provide practical help, advice and comfort after fires.
Hannah was in a flat above the Don Jones fish shop when fire tore through Cornhill in December 2008.
She said: “It was a freezing night and I hadn’t had a chance to grab any warm clothes.
“It was such a relief to have the Red Cross there and their support was fantastic.
“It’s amazing what a chat and a cup of tea can do.”
Hannah’s cousin, Jessica Meale, a volunteering support officer for the area, organised a fundraising fete for FESS in July 2008 unaware it would be assisting Hannah soon after.
She said: “It’s wonderful to know that my fundraising efforts helped a member of my family.”
