A FUNDRAISING event is taking place on Saturday, July 10, to help a weight-losing walker step out for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

Colleagues, friends and family of Albert Goodman employee Yvonne Rigby will be eating cakes, throwing hooplas and buying raffle tickets at a summer fete they have organised to help kick start her 80-km walk along the Great Wall of China in October. The County Gazette is supporting St Margaret’s in its 30th anniversary year as part of our 30 Years of Caring campaign.

The fete takes place at Creech St Michael Village Hall from 11am-2pm. Entrance is free, and there will be a host of activities including a raffle, tombola, book stalls, cake stalls, and, of course, an appearance from the great walker Yvonne. The Great Walk is part of St Margaret’s 30 year anniversary fundraising drive. Yvonne’s colleagues hope to raise £1,000 for the charity at the fete while Yvonne is hoping to raise an additional £1,450 in sponsorship.

Yvonne recently lost 10 stones to help prepare for the walk.
