A TOTAL of 422 new workers have been taken on by cash-strapped Somerset County Council in the past year.
Opposition politicians have slammed the move at a time when the authority is planning £10million cuts and a 5% council tax hike.
Leading councillors say many of the jobs are in schools and funded by the Government, while other posts include filling vacancies.
