SOMERSET captain Ian Blackwell is confident of securing a place in England's side for the first Test against India which gets underway in Nagpur next Wednesday (March 1).

That is after a fine display in England's opening warm-up match against Cricket Club of India where the off-spinning all-rounder hit a quickfire 59 and took six wickets in a 238-run victory.

With first choice spinner Ashley Giles unfit, Somerset's captain now looks the favourite to fill the vacancy.
