WIVELISCOMBE recorded their first victory since December 3 as they won 29-11 at home to local rivals North Pertherton in Somerset One.

The victory moved Wivey up to third in the table, four points behind second-placed Wells. Playing down the slope in the first half, Petherton looked the stronger side, piercing the home defence several times.

They eventually went in front when Ross Finlayson went over for a try with Tom Williams adding the extras.

Williams kicked a penalty to extend the lead but John Palk went over for Wivey to pull it back to 11-5 at the break.

The hosts left it to the final 20 minutes to show their best form, crossing for another four tries in a short space of time to carry the game away from the visitors.

Prop Mark Barrington scored two of them to cap a fine all-round performance.

Second row Palk got his second try with scrum half Sammy Kennon finishing off a fine backs move.

Full back Gareth Bellamy kicked the conversion to complete the scoring.
