MECHANIC Broderick Rice has been named as the second victim of a head-on crash after a police chase in Taunton on Saturday night.

Mr Rice, 32, also known as Ricky, was driving his maroon Ford Escort on the A38 towards Taunton when he was involved in a collision with a white Honda CRX driven by 34-year-old Wellington chef James Alexander Dunn.

Mr Dunn, who was being pursued by police after failing to stop at an earlier accident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Rice was taken to Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital, but died of his injuries on Monday afternoon.

His family has paid tribute to him, calling him a "free spirit".

He lived in Station Road with his girlfriend, having moved to Taunton aged 17 and worked for a number of local garages over the years.

His mother, Margaret Butler, and stepfather, Steve, said: "Ricky was a brilliant son and a free spirit.

"He was a young man who lived life to the full, and will be sadly mis-sed by all his family and friends as we were very close.

"He loved his Neapolitan Mastiff dog, Deezel. "We're coming together as a family and would ask people to respect our privacy at this very sad time."
