TRURO City has been selected to battle it out with Exeter for the prestigious prize of Best Local Food Awards.
The competition places emphasis on local produce and what Truro is doing to promote it and during September, a portfolio was put together with examples of menus from local restaurants using local produce and also highlighted the city's two successful food and drink fayres.
Also included in the portfolio was the work being carried out by Skinners Brewery whereby local barley grown just outside Truro is bought locally to produce local beers.
City clerk Russell Holden said: "It was during this collation of the portfolio that we realised just how much Truro does in the realms of promoting and using local produce, including what is going on in local schools and hospitals.
"We have also pointed out the community work being carried out in two of Truro's estates, which include food hygiene courses, healthy eating for children and adults, working up a vegetable box scheme and other initiatives."
He added: "We now await the final judging panel at the end of February where we have to plan a three-hour itinerary to prove to the judges that Truro is the best in the west."
