TROUBLEMAKERS could be banned from Chard town centre in a joint bid by traders and police to clean up the streets.
Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs), introduced by the Government to remove offenders from their stomping grounds, have already been effective in Weston-super-Mare and other towns, members of Chard Chamber of Commerce and Industry heard at a meeting last week.
Dr David Barnes, the chamber's president, said he had received a visit from town centre beat manager PC Nick Stone following the recent controversy over drunks and drug users hogging public benches in Chard.
Traders are being urged to start logging incidents, so individuals causing the most trouble can be identified.
