A FLEET of gritters has been working around the clock to keep Somerset on the move during the icy weather.
Somerset Highways, a partnership between Somerset County Council and the highways contractor Atkins, is committed to ensure the safety of all road users in both the rural and urban areas of Somerset.
Gritting lorries have covered 1,400 kilometres of road spreading around 750 tonnes of rock salt to prevent surfaces freezing in the last week, and more are on stand-by during the chilly weather.
