LAUNCESTON 5pts REDRUTH 69pts

REDRUTH, thanks to a crushing 59 points to five win against Launceston at Polson Bridge on Easter Monday, gained some measure of revenge for their league defeat on Saturday by reaching the final of the Skinner's Brewery Cornwall Knockout Cup Final.

With eight wins from 16 finals played to date, the Reds will start as hot favourites against struggling Truro when they meet next Tuesday (April 20) at the Camborne Recreation Ground.

Redruth and Launceston have dominated the cup competition for the last decade.

Playing a full strength side, the Reds ran out 59-5 winners thanks to nine touchdowns to their credit in dry, but windy weather.

Launceston used only a half dozen of their first team squad due to a testing final league division three fixture on against Cheltenham based Old Patesians on Saturday. The Reds are away to Baskingstoke, seeking another win to clinch fourth place.

With a league double over the Reds the Cornish All Blacks found their arch rivals too much of a handful on the day.

Launceston coach Barry Trevaskis said that the cup competition should be played much earlier in the season.

He was pleased with the form shown, by his young side whose try came in the first half when the Reds were 21 points up after the first 15 minutes.

Redruth scored tries by Lancaster, Thirlby and Martin, with Martin kicking the conversions. He finished with 15 points and is now the Reds top points scorer.

After 17 minutes Simon Morrell won a line out throw, the drive was set up and ended with prop Jason Hamm scoring the try.

With tries from the elusive Bonds, restored to the centre, and Lancaster touching down, Martin kicked a conversion for a 33-5 score.

It was again one way traffic for the Mining Division club in the second half with tries for Pedley, instance and Vinnicombe, Thirlby converting two.

Scorers - Launceston -try; Hamm. Redruth - tries: Lancaster 2, Bonds 2, Thirlby, Martin, Bonds, Pedley and Instance. Cons: Martin 5 and Thirlby.
