RANGERS and farmers on the Quantock Hills are urging dog owners to keep their pets on a tight lead to stop sheep worrying.

Many are eager to get the message across to those who walk their dogs near heavily pregnant ewes and newly born lambs that are so common during springtime.

Mary Fewings, of Quantock Farm, said: "We've had dogs take after our animals and when we spoke to the owners they said they'd come on the hills not expecting to see sheep.

"Most dogs have been alright, but you never know. There have been no major incidents this year, but we had a sheep killed a few years ago."
