PROBLEMS caused by drivers speeding through Helston were outlined to the police at a town council meeting last week.
Residents attending the meeting called for action to be taken to curb the problem, including the introduction of physical measures such as speed bumps and cameras.
One troublespot Meneage Road, where speeding motorists were reported to be disturbing local residents into the early hours.
Inspector Rachel Tills, from Helston police station, said that under a force-wide initiative, the responsibility for enforcing the 30 and 40mph speed limits had been passed to local inspectors.
New equipment had had to be bought and officers in the west of the county were undergoing special training during October and November to police the relevant roads.
"I have had more letters about speeding within 30 and 40mph areas in the last two years than anything else," added Insp Tills.
