IT was probably written in tablets of stone that Yeovil Town's tenacious midfield dynamo Darren Way would score the winner to send the club through to the FA Cup Second Round -- after all it was his 200th competitive game for the Glovers (writes Steve Sowden).

Way was named man-of-the-match on Tuesday night after his goal at Huish Park was enough to ensure Darlington had to suffer a dismal 330-mile return trip to County Durham.

And there was no doubting that Way was absolutely over the moon come the end.

"It was great to get a goal on my 200th appearance," he said. "To be honest the gaffer (Gary Johnson) has been telling me that I should be getting more goals so I've been training hard.

"So it is great that all that hard work has come off tonight."

Way, who was priced 14-1 at the beginning of the game to net the first goal, does not score that many having now scored 24 in 200 appearances. But when he does find the target they are sometimes pretty special moments.

His first goal for the club came on September 2, 2000, in the 2-0 Nationwide Conference success at Nuneaton Borough.

A cracking goal in the 4-0 Conference win over Dover Athletic at Huish Park on October 3, 2000.

A dramatic 84th minute penalty strike at Rushden and Diamonds in the Conference on November 4, 2000.

Netted in the 5-1 FA Cup giant-killing victory over Colchester United on November 18, 2000, at Huish Park.

When he first arrived at the club in the summer of 2000 after being released by Norwich City, Way was given the penalty-taking duties hence why he finished his first season with 12 goals.

Goals have been hard to come by since that debut campaign for Way, but nobody will forget how he gave Yeovil Town the lead in the historic 4-0 success at Doncaster Rovers on April 12, 2003 -- the emotional day when the Glovers clinched the Conference crown.

He has become a firm favourite with the fans and in years to come when supporters are asked to selected their Fantasy All-Time Yeovil Town X1 it is likely that the name of Darren Way will crop up.

Chairman of the Yeovil Town Independent Supporters' Association, Mark Kelly, said: "I'd like to extend my heartiest congratulations to Darren. He is a quality Yeovil legend."
