PORTHLEVEN 1 FALMOUTH TOWN 4

TOP versus bottom in the Jolly's Combination League brought the expected result, but it was not a performance to match Falmouth Town's newly attained status at the top of the Jolly's Combination League.

With Goonhavern losing at St Just, Town now have their noses in front, but it was not a display that pleased joint manager Stuart Wilkes.

"We scored four early goals and that is about as much as you can say about our performance," said Wilkes.

"If you thought England was bad, you should have seen this. When we scored the fourth goal it was as if someone just flicked off the switch because we stopped playing.

"In fact, in the second half there was no structure to our game whatsoever. I was really disappointed by it. The players knew they were top of the league when they got back to the changing rooms. They were happy about that, but not the display.

"If anyone had come into the ground and not known who was who, they would never have guessed that we were top of the table."

In fact, Town could have found themselves a goal down early on to a Daniel Stidwell effort after some slipshod defending, but they survived and took the lead after 15 minutes when Gareth Harris was fouled. Justin Miles took the free kick and goalkeeper Ian Chatfield could only watch as the shot absolutely scorched into the roof of the net.
