HIGHWAY bosses have announced that they are to begin a full resurfacing of Milford Road in Yeovil.

Yeovil MP David Laws this week welcomed the news given to him by Somerset Highways that the long-awaited work is to be launched in the middle of next year.

This follows on from earlier repairs to potholes in the road, and will involve raising the footways before relaying and resurfacing Milford Road between St Michael's Avenue and Melrose Road.

And Mr Laws said: "Although it has taken some time for this issue to be dealt with satisfactorily, I am pleased that Somerset Highways are now taking appropriate action to deal with the appalling state of Milford Road - which must be one of the worst roads in South Somerset.

"Milford Road has in my view been long overdue for vital road repairs. I will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the work is completed. This will be welcomed by the many local residents who have complained to me about the potholed state of the road."

Mr Laws has also reminded residents of the existence of the Somerset Direct service, which can be used to report any dangerous defects in roads and streets. Concerned residents should call 0845 345 9155.
