THE ladies of Falmouth Women's Institute are determined to raise money to refurbish the inside of their meeting rooms - with the help of a calendar - and copies are likely to be snapped up as soon as they go on sale next week.

At £5 they are good value and with only 150 being printed could end up being collectors' items in years to come.

Some may say the Falmouth ladies are following in the footsteps of that more famous branch of the WI whose efforts at making a somewhat risque calendar went on to be filmed.

But for the members of the Falmouth WI this is no nude calendar or anything like it, but it is bound to be just as successful.

The calendar portrays the ladies who call themselves the Sunshine Girls, the foot tapping, high kicking group who often perform to music and dance routines guided by WI vice-president Heather Thomas. No mean feat considering many are in their 80s and one is 90 and she is the choreographer!

The calendar pictures have been taken by Elizabeth Allen and worked into a something which all involved can be justly proud.

At the WI Christmas Fayre being held on Saturday, December 4, in Webber Street, members are hoping sales will go well. One local taxi driver is already known to have put his name down for half a dozen.

The cover of the calendar shows the recently refurbished outside of the Falmouth WI hall but much work still has to be done inside and Mrs Thomas is determined to help raise much needed funds. Also seen is the main picture, which includes the majority of members of the branch including Grace Bradford, president, and vice-presidents Pam Atherton and Mrs Thomas.

Setting the scene for the coming months is Mary McComb obviously keen to visit the sales as Miss January followed by Muriel Mitchell as Miss February and the double act of Audrey Gilders and Audrey Blake as the Misses March.

Fran Martin and Eileen Delvin are seen dodging the showers in April while Jean Pike and Millie Keen cavort as ballerinas for the Misses May.

Betty Ross, branch secretary takes on a bridal role for June while enjoying the beach in July is Kathy Lewis and Barbara Bullock.

Resplendent in their summer wear for August is Chris Gibbs and Mercia Patterson while September sees Joan Clarke, now in her 80s taking a step back in time to the school of St Trinians.

Sylvia Bascombe shows off the harvest bounty as Miss October followed by Maureen May for November leaving December showing Heather Thomas and the oldest member of the group Pat Butland.
