RAILFUTURE Devon and Cornwall has welcomed the reinstatement of double track between Truro and St Austell.

The £14.3 million scheme which will be officially opened next Tuesday when a steam hauled train is pulled into Truro, has led to the second track between Probus and Burngullow, being replaced and finally sorting out a notorious rail bottleneck.

The scheme was part funded by Objective One grant and partly by the Strategic Rail Authority in partnership with the county council.

Secretary of Railfuture Devon and Cornwall, Stuart Walker said: "We are very pleased to see this project completed as it will reduce delays to trains on the main line through Cornwall.

"Passengers should see an immediate improvement to their journeys, as they will no longer have to wait at the signal for a train coming the other way."
