CORNWALL'S fledgling 17-21 badminton squad, despite suffering the disappointment of having their first fixture cancelled at short notice, are gathering themselves up for the second round match, writes John Tresidder.

This four-counties regional tie of the national competition had to be abandoned when one of the teams was forced to withdraw and our own team suffered player injuries before the match scheduled for Fowey Community Leisure Centre earlier this month.

However, what would have been the second leg, in effect, is now going to be contested as a three-county deciding tie, between Cornwall, Avon and Wiltshire when Cornwall travel to Melksham, Wiltshire on Sunday, January 9.
