THE National Lighthouse Centre in Penzance, is to close, say owners Trinity House. A new home may be found in Plymouth or elsewhere in Cornwall.
The decision follows three years of consultation with Penwith and Penzance town councils.
A spokesman for Trinity House said the artefacts needed to be displayed in larger premises which had greater public accessibility.
The museum between Newlyn and Penzance opened in 1991 with one of the finest collections of lighthouse equipment in the world.
