IN response to Mr Matthew Taylor MP's letter last week, the Liberal Democrats' policy of supporting the Euro, wanting to sign up to the European constitution, abolishing life sentences for murder, wanting lesser sentences for drug crime and extending the rights of asylum seekers on an already over-burdened asylum system (which already costs us £204m a year), are perhaps a few good reasons why his party will not win Falmouth and Camborne at the next general election. Fortunately the electors here have far better sense than he does.

Mr Taylor talks about the post office and yet his party's proposals could see many more post offices closing. He talks about water bills and yet his party, who make up many of Cornwall county council's members, have just spent £74,000 of our money on bottled water! He talks about a local income tax but fails to mention that this tax, together with the whole administration it would bring, would actually increase bills in Carrick and Kerrier by up to £490 per person.

On the doorstep the local Conservative party is finding that our policies on crime, health, education, Europe, immigration, pensions and affordable housing, to name but a few, are striking a chord with people and are putting us in poll position to take this seat from Labour at the general election. Perhaps Mr Taylor should look to his own parliamentary seat in Truro rather than interfering in Falmouth and Camborne as he my find my Conservative colleague there, Dr Fiona Kemp, is on course to give him his P45 on May 5.
