A CATERING student from Nynehead was left distraught this week after she claimed she was told her course will be cancelled when tutors at Somerset College of Arts and Technology are made redundant.
Eleanor Perk, 18, heard on Wednesday that if tutors on the NVQ Hospitality and Catering lose their jobs, the popular course would be cancelled.
But a spokesman for the college said the college is joining a national campaign to protect adult learning after being forced to close courses due to funding changes but no decision on the changes to courses had yet been made.
As reported in the County Gazette last Friday, cuts in funding from the Learning Skills Council and other associated income has resulted in a £1million shortfall for adult learners' courses at SCAT and affecting colleges across Somerset and nationwide.
