BLOCKS have been put up around the airfield at Smeatharpe to stop the repeat of an illegal rave that happened there in 2002.
Hundreds of revellers, who had been unable to get past new security measures at Glastonbury Festival, gathered at the airfield on the Somerset/Devon border to hold their own impromptu party instead.
Violent scenes erupted as police tied to stop more people getting in, and disperse those already there. Several people were arrested.
To ensure the same scenes are not repeated this year, Devon and Cornwall Police has constructed water blocks around the edge of the airfield to prevent cars being driven onto it, and police patrols from force areas in Devon and Wellington, will be incr-eased.
