A CAMBORNE council tax payer has lambasted Kerrier district council for not questioning the provision of road signs in the area in both English and Cornish.

Mr B Watters of Atlantic Close is hoping his complaint concerning the authority's Cornish Language Strategy is discussed before members of the full council this week.

"When this motion was proposed that our current English worded street/road signs should also show the same in the Cornish language you should have envisaged such signs will show what will appear to be a foreign language which many of the people will not be able to read, pronounce or understand the meaning of the words."

Mr Watters questions "why did not a single councillor present see fit, on behalf of those they are supposed to be representing, raise even one single question or oppose the motion?"

He said: "It is outstandingly clear such signs will not serve any useful purpose whatsoever. Democracy states we should tolerate minority views, but on this occasion you have failed to rightfully support the majority. To say I am not impressed by you would be an understatement."

He asks the council to rescind its previous decision in respect of the Cornish Strategy.

The issue is listed on Wednesday's agenda for Kerrier council under public question time.
