TRURO and St Austell MP Matthew Taylor has promised to concentrate on his constituency work after losing his role as chairman of the Liberal Democrats.
The dramatic change for the popular MP comes just over a month after he retained his seat at the general election and saw all constituencies in Cornwall fall to the Liberal-Democrats.
The contest, which was held in the House of Commons, saw Mr Taylor lose to Chesterfield MP Paul Holmes, by 23 votes to 36.
