IT wasn't just the heat that Beacon felt at Tolcarne Road on Saturday when St Austell hit top form in their County One fixture by hitting a sizzling 299 to win by a 225-run margin against Beacon.

Man of the match by a mile was Daniel McLaughlin with a not out 76 that included nine sixes and two fours.

The first wicket fell at 16 when Jarman was caught by Treve Kitchen off Shane Richards. Matt Ellison and R Hawken then added 55 runs before Ellison was out for 42 - having hit nine fours.

Playing with adventure" the third wicket partnership put on 90 runs with Hawken hitting seven fours in his 49. Proctor gained an lbw shout at 161 after Hawken had faced 103 deliveries in an innings that lasted 105 minutes.

Mike Bone was next to go, well caught by Mellor off stalwart Proctor at 191-4. Bone clouted 11 fours before he was caught by Mellor to give prospect Richards his second wicket at 191-4. Bone faced 60 deliveries.

Gary Bone was caught by Kitchen off Proctor for 11 at 202, but Daniel McLaughlan and Miles Chadwick added a very telling 97 runs in an unbroken stand for the sixth wicket. McLaughlan hit ninesixes plus two fours.

Richards 2-67 and Proctor 2-92 off eight overs were the best of the six-man attack.

In reply, Beacon made a disastrous start and lost three wickets for 13 runs.

Wickets continued to tumble with only S York making double figures (14). Fourteen extras helped Beacon to a very modest score of 64 in 20 overs.

St Austell were 235 run winners as Beacon mustered a very modest three points,for their efforts.

McLaughlan may well have made the best bowling return of anyone in County One this season of 10.4-6-16-7.
