PENRYN RFC president Mr Ray Plummer held a minute's silence at the start of their annual general meeting as a mark of respect to those who had died during the year, especially Roger Hosen, a great player, probably the greatest ever to war the Borough colours, Merlin Martin, a real Penryn clubman, and Cyril Vanstone, a great man, involved with the club for 50 years.

In his review of the year, Mr Plummer said said that the past season appeared to have been good.

"The first team were in a tough league and the County Cup was good with the final being a particularly good game."

The 2nd XV were supposed to have played many club games, but there were great problems raising a team and Mark Bolitho had little support

"Penryn seems to be a club of many parts or individuals," said Mr Plummer. "We must pull together as a family club."

He added that Camborne SoM had fitted in welland that the club wanted them to be part of the environment. "Some people have moaned about them being here, but they have been an asset to the club," added Mr Pl He congratulated the treasurer, Mr Terry Coplin for performing a fantastic job.

Mr Plummer expressed personal views on payment of players at Penryn's level. "The Premier and National leagues are OK, but level 5 and down should be amateur," he . "Locally there seem to be too many players chasing too few places."

And of the future? "What do the people of Penryn want for the rugby club? Do the young men want to play rugby? Can we hold on to the youngsters that we have in the club? We need to talk to people and ask their opinions."
