A REGULAR fixture in the Working Boat programme, the Terry Heard Memorial Race, was staged by Mylor Yacht Club on Sunday with 13 crews taking part, writes John Cruise.

The weather was not exactly as forecast and the fresh north westerly was too much for topsails and some even reefed.

The courses this year provide windward starts and three rounds of relatively short triangles which allow good control over the race duration. More importantly, this appeared to have suited the skippers who afterwards thanked race officer Clive Hoyle and the Mylor team.

In B class the racing was very close with places changing several times after the start.

Grace had the lead on the reaches but at the end of the first round Abigail Rose had the advantage. They continued to extend their lead over Grace to two minutes at the finish.

In the battle for third place Victory, with Martin Heard amongst the crew, judged their final tack for the line perfectly and crossed nine seconds ahead of Mabel.

In C class Lottie took the lead early on and held it to the finish with Krystal close behind and winning on corrected time. Leila was not far behind in third place.
