WHEN baby Iona Leaf dropped her mum Jessica's house keys down a Minehead drain, a special road team mounted an emergency rescue operation to get them back on Monday.
As 13-month-old Iona smiled and gurgled, Jessica, of Summerland Avenue, Minehead, told the Somerset County Gazette how she had been given the keys to play with to stop her whinging.
Jessica, wife of Minehead parish curate, the Rev David Leaf, said: "I was carrying her, and she was whinging, so I gave her the keys, which have a 'Make Poverty History' rubber band as a key fob which she likes to chew.
"We were about to cross the road outside Irnham Lodge when I heard a tinkle as the keys dropped, but when I looked down I couldn't see them. But I did see a ripple in the water of the drain at my feet."
