A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy found wandering in Monkton Heathfield last Saturday afternoon may have cycled across the M5 to get there.
Store owner Ray Tully told police after the youngster walked into his shop and then wandered around in the street outside.
Officers asked Mr Tully and his wife to keep an eye on him before arriving to drive him to his home in Ruishton two miles away.
Mr Tully said: "Apparently he had a bike and said he'd crossed a big road with lots of traffic, which made him scared. That means he either got on the M5 or the A38, which is frightening."
