If like me you didn't get a ticket for Glastonbury, well, matter do it? We've still got Castle Rock at Launceston Castle which showcases some of the best bands in Cornwall on July 22 and 23, writes Graham James

It's also one of the best sites to be found for a festival anywhere in the country and caters for all musical tastes from jazz, funk, folk and blues to indie, punk, rock and metal.

The music kicks off on Friday with a night organised by Nomads crew which features turntablists playing house, hard house, garage and the garden shed if they can squeeze it in the dance tent between 8pm and the 1am curfew.

Saturday is when the festival gets full on with over 30 local, UK and international acts performing on the two stages from noon till 1am.

Reuben headline on the main stage. This Surrey-based three-piece were nominated for best British newcomer at the Kerrang! Awards and Radio One's Zane Lowe made their single Freddy Kreuger single of the week and Racecar is Racecar backwards album of the week.

Fleeing New York are a Southampton-based three-piece who deliver thrilling indie-rock blues. Guitarist and vocalist Russell Marsden was born in Plymouth and spent the first eight years of his life living in Cornwall. They have been described as the UK's answer to The White Stripes. Other bands on the main stage are: Tat, a three-piece punk group from London; Offshore, Launceston's premier hard rock outfit; Truro metallers Adverse Polarity; hardcore Cornish punk band Burning Coalition; The Needles; We Were For; Driverdown; B*Movie Heroes; Sanguine; Died Smiling; and Rich Man's Plaything.

The second stage line-up features: Backdoor Men, local blues legends; Emily Maughan; Men of Splendour, Launceston bred jazz funk fusion; 2 Foot Giant, Launceston's funk metallers; Perranporth's The Hitchcock Rules; Redruth rockers Baby Astrolab; St Austell's The Chinaski Effect; Redwin, popular local folk band; The Rushes, another alt rock three-piece from Launceston; Powederstrip, more alt rock from the town; and Energia, samba band from Holsworthy. More acts are still to be announced. Gates open at 11am on the Saturday and being a community event it's open to everyone.

Tickets for the Friday night dance session are £5 in advance or £6 on the night. For Saturday its £7 in advance or £8 on the day. Weekend tickets cost £12.
