ILMINSTER held its finals day on Saturday, September 12, and on a really hot day, this was an excellent way to end the season, and a fitting way to finish it.

■ DONYATT Bowling Club are getting towards the end of the season and played some good games at home and away during the past week.

The away game was with Merriott B C, this was a rearranged game which should have been played on the first day of the outdoor season but was put off for one reason or another.

But the game was finally played on September 10 which allowed Donyatt members to see Merriott’s new clubhouse for the first time.

The game itself went in favour of the home side, winning on three rinks out of the four and by quite a good margin.

■ SOUTH Petherton Bowling Club had its bi-annual visit for a four-rink friendly game at the Isle of Wedmore Bowling Club.

The weather was fine, the welcome was most warm and the whole afternoon was very sociable.

Petherton were fortunate to win on three of the four rinks and by an overall score of 30.

On Sunday, September 13, Petherton visited Poulton to play the first stage of the Jones/Hingley cup.

This trophy is played for twice a year, once at Poulton and again at South Petherton. On this occasion in a four-rink mixed match, Petherton came out winners on two of the rinks and drew on one. They were also the overall winners.

■ SINCE the last club report the Chardstock Bowling Club ladies have continued their great season winning against Crewkerne, Bridport, Ilminster and Sidmouth with no matches lost.

Piper recently took part in the annual Perham Cup competition at Seaton, and finished third of 12 teams.

On Tuesday, September 8, a visit to Hemyock resulted in defeat by 39-52 shots , but this was remedied by a fine win at South Petherton on September 11 by 63-32 shots.

In the mixed matches there was victory against Ottery St. Mary and defeat to Queen Camel. For the men, two wins against Lyme Regis and Crewkerne, were balanced with defeat to Ilminster and Madeira (Exmouth).

On Sunday, September 6, a members round robin 3 Triples competition of 18 ends was played for the Silver Jubilee Cup.

The winners were J. Piper, P.

Bowden and A. Davy. Runners up were B. Albon, M. Sturley and N.

Denslow. Thanks were extended to Mike Rogers (Club Competition Secretary) for organising the event.

Summer weather returned for the home five-rink mixed match on Wednesday, September 9, against Honiton.

Playing under blue skies and in warm sunshine Chardstock won convincingly on three rinks, by one shot on another, and losing by four shots on the remaining rink, and winning the match by 103 -71 shots.

Sluman won 14-13, S. Jeffery lost 19-23, N. Denslow won 26-12 and J. Rolph won 25-13.

A four-rink mixed match away to Hemyock on Saturday, September 13, resulted in a 96 to 56 win for Chardstock, with victory on two rinks and the remainder drawn.

Sluman drew 18-18, N. Denslow drew 19-19 and S.

Jeffery won 26-13.

On Sunday, September 14, a mixed team visited Cullompton for a threerink and one triples match. Sadly, Chardstock lost on three of the four rinks and overall by 2 shots, 66-68.

■ IT has been a good week for Chard Bowling Club.

On Wednesday, September 9, Chard welcomed Wellington Bowling Club to a friendly mixed fours match played on four rinks.

The visitors won on two rinks but lost overall to Chard 74 shots to 65 shots.

On Saturday, September 12, on a lovely warm day, Chard played Sherborne in the Wessex Mixed Friendly League and won with 94 shots to Sherborne's 57 shots.

Chard also accumulate League points by winning on three rinks out of four.
