AT the November meeting of The Minehead Townswomen’s Guild, the chairman welcomed the president, members and visitors before introducing the speaker, Mr. George Reekie who gave a presentation of his own photographs from a visit to India in search of Bengal Tigers.

He spoke most interestingly and informatively of the people, places and wildlife, culminating in wonderful photographs of wild tigers in their natural habitat. The vote of thanks was given to Mr. Reekie by Tricia Smith who said how much everyone had enjoyed the presentation.

Following coffee Guild business included plans for the Somerset Federation Carol Service, the Guild’s own Christmas and New Year celebrations and reports from the various sub-groups. Lifestyle, Social Studies, Gardens and Skittles groups had all enjoyed interesting meetings and the Amblers had been fortunate with both weather and walks in their recent short holiday in Swanage. The Gardens group were hosting an audio-visual show of plants, trees and gardens called “Fading Images” at the Friends Meeting House in Bancks Street on November 18 at 2.00pm. The cost would be 50p and all members and visitors were welcome.

The Competition for a ‘cat’ in any medium was won by Sue Smith and raffle prizes were taken home by Joyce Steadman, Joan Jessep, Rosemary Jones and Jean Effeny. The next meeting on 8th December will be a Victorian Magic Lantern show and will also be the Guild’s Anniversary celebration.

The Minehead Guild meets on the second Monday of each month at 7.30pm in the Church Hall, Bancks Street and all ladies are welcome to come along as a visitor to the meetings. For more information, contact Ann Grieve on 01643-706389.
