A one-minute silence will be held in Truro to remember those who have lost their lives to Covid-19.

Lionel Knight, Truro's Town Crier, will be leading the minute of silence at 7pm during the late-night Christmas shopping evening on Wednesday, December 16. The Christmas Lights in Boscawen Street will also be turned off.

The Mayor of Truro, Bert Biscoe and the Very Revd Dean of Truro Cathedral, Roger Bush, will be joining Lionel to lead the silence.

Lionel Knight said: "I've initiated this idea to hold this one-minute silence to remember those who have lost their lives to Covid-19 and for those who have been left behind. If people want to, they can stand for minute whilst the lights in Boscawen Street are also turned off."

Bert Biscoe added: "Please take a moment to stand quietly with all those families, friends, lovers and colleagues who have lost someone during the pandemic. In amongst the commerce, the expectations, the festival of Nativity, and doors opening on a new year, a minute of reflection would not only be rewarding but also comforting."

Truro City Centre Christmas Lights are funded and maintained by Truro BID, along with support from Lionel Knight and his wife Carol.

Alun Jones, Truro BID said: "We fully support Lionel's idea to show respect to those who have lost their lives.

"Truro BID will be switching off the angel lights in Boscawen Street once Lionel has called the minute silence. If you do join us, please ensure that you socially distance."
